{"id":254,"date":"2026-07-24T22:44:21","date_gmt":"2026-07-25T02:44:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.slovenskidom.com\/?page_id=254"},"modified":"2026-07-24T22:44:22","modified_gmt":"2026-07-25T02:44:22","slug":"who-we-are","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.slovenskidom.com\/index.php\/who-we-are\/","title":{"rendered":"Who We Are"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In order to understand who are we, we should go back to the late 1950&#8217;s when Slovenski Dom was organized.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At that time, the political situation in Toronto was such that democratically oriented Canadians of Slovenian origin did not have a place to meet, in order to discuss current events, have a social, sport or multicultural event or festivity. In order to establish such a meeting place, a group of concerned citizens organized and financed Slovenski Dom. This was in the late fifties (year 1959). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Since that time, there have been hundreds of different events in Slovenski Dom, such as gym classes which produced Canadian National Competitions gymnasts, seminars on history, politics, cultural events; banquets, meetings of occasions, performances, etc. etc. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Currently, Slovenski Dom is rented out to a local community group and is used daily as a drop-in centre for seniors in the area. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Slovenski Dom has retained access to the small hall in the front of the building for holding meetings and, in particular, the Annual General Meeting. We used to organize annual banquets, support Slovenian schools and conduct writing contests. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We occasionally provide information to potential immigrants from Slovenia, organizes tours, picnics and other events for our members and keep close contact with other Slovenian organizations in the Greater Toronto Area and further afield.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In order to understand who are we, we should go back to the late 1950&#8217;s when Slovenski Dom was organized.
