Directors' Message Board

Re: PHOTOS posted on the websiite

Hi, Tony!
I copied this post to the DIRECTORS messages site.
When I went to delete it from the MEMBERS section, I did not see any heading for MESSAGES.
Can I assume that once I changed the PARENT heading the message's  web placement  is automatically adjusted?
Majda
P.S. thanks for the online instructions....

Re: PHOTOS posted on the websiite
I checked out the Pictures heading listed under General Information and, guess what (!?), I saw posted two photos of children taken at our July '09 Slovenski Dan exhibit.  [just like you said, Tony...] The photos look good but each takes a while to download.  Would it be possible to COMPRESS these two photos in the same way the soccer photo is  compressed?
Are there more photos to upload? It appears to me that we CAN post all the photos taken last summer at the exhibit.  Yes or No?   Is it difficult to create a folder titled SLOVENSKI DAN - July 2009??
As for the LOG-IN requirement for these photos.... I can understand why we would want it and maybe it does make sense.  This needs to be revisited, because the point that other sites do NOT have logins to view information is well made. Yet there is the issue of security and privacy from internet trollers (and/or scammers) ....
... just talking.... checking out our site... messaging online.....

Majda!!!  GREAT to see you

Majda!!!  GREAT to see you taking the plunge!

First, a couple of comments by way of instruction:

Your post got slotted into the Members section not the Directors section.  It is OK where it is except for being more exposed than you might like it to be if it were intenhded as really a Directors ONLY posting.  You need to be careful with what you choose in the Menu Settings part of a posting in order to get an item posted exactly where you intend it to go.

Download times are partly a function of service provider.  Dialup services are very slow.  Cable or other high speed services are faster.  The other thing that matters is how big the picture file is.  That's partly the responsibility of the person posting.  If a high resolution image is uploaded in the first place it will take a long time to download again.  We can, however, set limits on the size of files that will be accepted by thye SD site.  Currently Directors have pretty liberal permissions for file size and that's probably why the available pictures are slow - because they are large files.  If the end use is only a computer screen then relatively low quality with relatively small file size is sufficient.  Modify your files accordingly before you upload them.

Your computer is probably set to log you in to the SD web site automatically.  Try pressing the "Log out" link.  THEN you will see what the anonymous user (non-Registered, non-Member, non-Director) sees - actually quite a bit!  All the access levels can be controlled quite extensively by the Administrator.

All this needs to be guided by the Board of Directors.
